Lenoir-Rhyne Classic
JCSU Invitational
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's track and field teams competed at both the Lenoir-Rhyne Classic and the JCSU Invitational this weekend collecting seven first-place finishes.
"The opportunity to compete at Johnson C. Smith and Lenoir-Rhyne this weekend was awesome with several personal bests that point to our continued improvement," said Queens director of track & field and cross country
Jim Vahrenkamp.
Queens sent throwers to the LR Classic where
Martin Knauer totaled three first-place finishes. He threw a distance of 17.64-meters for first in the shot put, a distance of 49.14-meters for first in the discus, and a distance of 55.54-meters for first in the javelin.
For the women,
To'Mara Carmichael shined taking first place in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.04-meters. At LR, she also took third in the shot put, fourth in the discus, and ninth in the javelin.
Gudmundur Danielsson also claimed a first-place finish in the men's javelin at JCSU after throwing a distance of 55.29 in the event.
In jumps,
Elise Hoel Ulseth secured first-place in the high jump with a mark of 1.57-meters. She also took first in the javelin with a throw of 36.07-meters, placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.76-seconds, and earned sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.68.
Additionally,
Shacoya Price recorded two top-five finishes today grabbing second in the long jump with a mark of 5.23-meters and third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.76-meters.
Stefan Jungmichel competed in the high jump for the men placing fourth with a jump of 1.93-meters.
On the track, the distance crew got to work competing in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs.
Gillian Kasitz raced to a second place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:18.39. Teammates Jordan Rivenbark,
Allyson Arellano, and
Regan O'Hara trailed in third, fourth, and sixth, respectively. In the men's 800,
Jose Rosas finished sixth in 2:03.01 while Zac Abushmaies took eighth.
Rosas and
Lucie Noall each took third in the men's and women's 1,500 with Rosas clocking a time of 4:02.64 in the men's race and Noall crossing the line in 4:42.10 in the women's. Additionally,
Aleksa Heeley and Abushmaies took sixth in each race.
Queens also had
Zuzana Durcova race in the 5,000-meter run where she took third place in 18:22.76.
Additionally,
Niklas Klei performed well on the track today finishing sixth in the 200-meter dash in 22.05-seconds and 12
th in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.14-seconds. Klei also took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.68-meters.
"We only have one more week before we compete at the conference championships," Vahrenkamp added. "Between now and then, our men and women will look to prepare themselves for that opportunity. I am excited to see what both teams can do at the championships. Both the men and women should be in the hunt for another South Atlantic Conference Championship title."
The Royals will be back on the road next weekend competing at the A&T Invite and the Bucknell Team Challenge.
