CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 10
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team will face Wingate University on Friday in the semifinal round of the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship. Top-seeded Queens will enter the game ranked fourth in the NCAA DII Region rankings with a 15-2 overall record. The fifth-seeded Bulldogs currently have a 9-8 overall record.
Queens received a first-round bye in the Championship after winning its fifth SAC Regular Season title with a perfect 8-0 league record. Head Coach
Clare Short was recently named SAC Coach of the Year and junior attacker
Ally Blood was named SAC Player of the Year. The Royals currently have the second best scoring offense in the nation. They also have the second ranked scoring margin in the nation and are on a 12-game win streak.
The Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals after defeating Catawba, 11-9, on the road. After jumping out to a 5-1 lead in the first half, Catawba never relinquished control of the game. Kendall Wells led with four points on three goals and one assist while six others recorded two points in the win.
Wells leads Wingate with 62 points this season on 54 goals and eight assist. Becca Ruiz has 27 goals and 24 assists for 51 points. Goalkeeper Arion Pierre has 149 saves on the year and a .449 save percentage.
Queens is led by Blood who has 34 goals and 43 assists for 77 points.
Hanna Scott has 33 goals and 34 assists for 67 points while
Rachel Perrett has 47 goals and 15 assists for 62 points. Additionally,
Kara Blanchard has 57 points and
Katie Wardle has 53 points. In goal,
Chase Brokaw has a 12-1 record and the top save percentage in the league at .556.
Queens won the regular season game between the pair by a score of 18-6.
