ROCK HILL, S.C. – The No. 21 Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team was eliminated from the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Thursday afternoon, falling by a 4-2 score to No. 14 and second-seeded Wingate University at the Rock Hill Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs won two doubles contests in the second and first flights, respectively, to gain the early 1-0 match lead.
Wingate extended its lead to a 2-0 advantage with a singles win in the second position before Queens junior
Isabel Fornies put the Royals on the scoreboard with a 7-5. 6-2 victory in the third flight.
The two sides traded points with Wingate winning in the first flight and the Royals gaining another point at No. 4 via a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win by freshman
Viktorija Veselinova to keep the match alive. However, the Bulldogs pulled out a two-set win in the fifth flight to clinch the match victory.
Queens will now turn their focus to the NCAA Southeast Regional in hopes of earning an at-large big to continue postseason play.
