No. 23 Queens Picks Up SAC Win Over Trojans

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 23 Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team turned in an impressive performance in defeating Anderson University (S.C.) 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Howard Levine Tennis Center.
 
The Royals swept doubles play to open competition, beginning with a 6-1 win from the No. 8 duo of Sasha Davidzenka and Yana Fleyer in the top position. The tandem of Hannah Lehfeldt and Viktorija Veselinova won 6-2 at No. 3 and the team of Isabel Fornies and Caity Klaassen won 6-2 at No. 2 to finish off the sweep.
 
Lehfeldt began singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 win from Veselinova at No. 4. Fleyer clinched the match decision with a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 1.
 
Fornies continued her early season success with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 3 as Klaassen earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 to collect the Royals final point.
 
"The girls came out focused in doubles play and used the momentum from the point to capture five first set singles, said Head Tennis Coach Billy Boykin. "We had a good week of practice and I thought the girls competed well today against a talented Anderson team."
 
Queens hits the road for a crucial non-conference region match tomorrow against No. 10 University of North Georgia tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Dahlonega, Ga.
