MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's
David Alvarez,
Manoel Dos Passos,
Michael Hornsby, and
Sebastian Kalk were each selected to the 2019 NCCSIA Men's Soccer All-State Team, it was announced on Thursday afternoon.
The four all-state selections are the most for Queens since the Royals had five players honored following the 2013 season. Queens earned its second straight South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship in 2019 and advanced to the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament after defeating Lee University (Tenn.) in the opening match.
The All-State First Team features juniors
David Alvarez and
Michael Hornsby. Alvarez, a midfielder from Barcelona, Spain, led the team with nine goals and 19 total points. Hornsby, a defender from Biberach an der Riss, Germany, makes his third appearance on the all-state squad after totaling four goals and five assists while captaining a defense that allowed just 22 goals on the season.
On the second team, Queens placed senior
Sebastian Kalk and junior
Manoel Dos Passos. Kalk, a goalkeeper from Reinbek, Germany, was among the top keepers in the region with a .776 save percentage, 76 saves, and two shutouts. Dos Passos, a defender from Parauapebas, Para, Brazil, helped anchor a back line that produced two shutouts and allowed just 1.13 goals per game.
