GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former Queens University of Charlotte guard
Mike Davis has signed with the Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G-League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, the organization announced on Sunday. Davis, a 2018 graduate of Queens, becomes the second Queens men's basketball alumnus and the second member of the 2017-2018 team to sign with an NBA team's G-League affiliate.
Davis spent his first professional season with Belfast Star of the Irish Super League, where he was named the league's MVP after averaging 29.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 61.6 percent from the field and 46.6 percent from 3-point range.
In his two seasons with the Royals, Davis started 68 of 70 games and averaged 12.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 39 percent from the 3-point line. He scored 20 points or more on eight occasions, with a career-high of 29 points on Nov. 22, 2016, versus Newberry College. Davis's play earned him honorable mention all-conference accolades as a junior and second-team all-conference honors as a senior.
In his four-year college career, Davis scored 1,715 points, totaling 904 points in his time at Queens and 811 in his first two collegiate seasons at Francis Marion University.
As a senior, Davis's play helped the Royals to their winningest season in program history. The 2017-2018 team went 32-4, compiling the program's best record, and won the Southeast Regional title to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2003. With a win in the national quarterfinals, Queens made its second all-time appearance in the national semifinals tying for the deepest postseason run in program history. During the regular season, the Royals reached No. 1 in the NABC / Division II Rankings for the first and only time in program history.
With Davis as one of its leaders, the 2018 senior class posted a record of 62-8 (.886 win pct.) in its final two seasons, making it the winningest senior class in Queens basketball history.
"Mike helped to launch our program to new heights during his two seasons at Queens," said Royals head coach
Bart Lundy. "He had a fantastic first season as a professional player, being named the MVP of the Irish Super League. He is a worker and continues to improve as a pro. He will be a great addition to the Swarm and the Hornets organization."
