CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte softball team will face Coker College for the fourth time this season in the first round of the NCAA Division II Southeast 1 Regional on Thursday, May 10 in Dahlonega, Ga. The Royals enter the Championships seeded fifth with a record of 35-15 while the Cobras are seeded fourth with a record of 35-16.
Queens and Coker split the regular season series earlier in the year with Queens claiming game one, 8-3, and the Cobras taking game two, 2-0. Coker then went on to defeat the Royals in the South Atlantic Conference Championships Semifinals, 5-0.
In their regular season series
Courtney Pearson secured the win for the Royals in game one, pitching a full game and giving up seven hits and two earned runs while striking out nine batters. At the plate,
Sara Ingoldsby and
Jordan Hunt helped lead the charge in game one. Ingoldsby went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs while Hunt went 1-for-3 with two runs, one RBI, and one home run. Hunt also went 1-for-3 in game two, recording one of Queens' three hits in the game.
Coker was led by Maria Williamson who was 3-for-6 at the plate, recording one run, three RBIs, and a home run. Taylor Forehand secured the game two win for the Cobras pitching a complete game and giving up four hits and zero runs while striking out two batters.
In the SAC Championships, both Pearson and
Ali Celiberti appeared in the circle for Queens combining for seven strikeouts and giving up a total of nine runs.
Abby Lathan,
Jordan Hunt,
Evie Scott, and
Madison Ackerman combined for the Royals' four hits.
Williamson and Stricklan combined for five of Coker's nine hits. Stricklan also had three RBIs and a homerun for the Cobras. Christine Carver led in the circle, pitching six innings and giving up three hits and no runs while striking out six batters.
Tomorrow's quarterfinal game will be played at 4:30 p.m. at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium in Dahlonega, Ga. Second round games will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 11. Live stats and video will be available
