No. 23 Women’s Tennis Prepares for Southeast Regional Opener

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
On Saturday, April 28, the 23rd-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team begins play in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on the campus of Columbus State University.
 
The Royals received the regional's fourth seed after earning an automatic bid with the team's 2018 South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Championship. Queens is currently 16-3 overall with a 13-3 mark against regional competition.
 
Queens will take the court against fifth-seeded and 17th-ranked Tusculum College (20-2), marking the third matchup of the 2018 season between the two schools.
 
The season's first meeting took place in Greeneville, Tenn. where the Pioneers claimed a narrow 5-4 win in early-April. Queens avenged the loss with a 5-2 triumph over Tusculum in the SAC Championship Semifinals last week to advance to the finals.
 
Currently, Queens' freshman Yana Fleyer is ranked 66th overall in the nation among singles players, while Fleyer and fellow freshman teammate Sasha Davidzenka form the nation's 33rd-ranked doubles tandem.
 
Tusculum also boasts an individual and a doubles team in the national rankings. Sophomore Katarina Majorova is ranked 55th among singles players, while the sophomore duo of Annie and Caitlin McCullough are ranked 36th among doubles teams.
 
Opening round play begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, with the winner advancing to play top-seeded Columbus State on Sunday, April 30 at 1 p.m. the Cougars are currently No. 4 overall in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings.
