Queens Tennis Gears Up for SAC Championships

Earlier this week, both the men's and women's tennis teams from Queens University of Charlotte collected 5-0 victories in the Quarterfinals of the South Atlantic Conference Championships. On Friday, both teams take part in the semifinals at the Cayce Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C.
 
The men's team, ranked No. 15 in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings and the tournament's top overall seed, have won nine straight matches, including two 5-4 decisions over ranked opponents in Tusculum College and Wingate University. Queens is also fifth overall in the latest Southeast Regional Rankings.
 
The Royals (12-3, 9-1 SAC) take on No. 24 Newberry College, seeded fourth in the postseason tournament, at 1 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves are 19-6 overall with a 7-3 league record.
 
Queens and Newberry met during the regular season on March 14 in Newberry, S.C. with the Royals coming away with a 7-2 win. The Wolves advanced to the semifinals with 5-1 win over the tournament's fifth seed, Anderson University.
 
On the women's side, Queens is ranked 36th overall in the nation and seventh in the Southeast Region while earning the third seed in the postseason. The Royals take on No. 16 Tusculum College in the semifinals, who are ranked No. 3 in the region and are the tournament's second overall seed.
 
The Royals (14-3, 8-2 SAC), winners of four straight and six of their last 10, traveled to Greeneville, Tenn. on April 8, where they suffered a narrow 5-4 loss to the Pioneers (20-1, 10-1 SAC) the Nichols Tennis Complex. Friday's semifinal matchup begins at 9 a.m.
 
The South Atlantic Tennis Championships Finals are scheduled for Saturday, April 21with the women's match at 9 a.m. followed by the men at Noon.
