No. 39 Queens Collects Two Shutouts on Senior Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– The 39th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte collect back-to-back shutouts on Saturday, picking up 9-0 wins over Carson-Newman University and Johnson C. Smith University at the Queens Sports Complex.
 
The two wins helped Queens finish 13-3 overall, while the win over CNU gave the Royals an 8-2 conference record. Queens will be the No. 3 overall seed in next week's South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Championship and will host No. 6 seed Anderson University on Tuesday, April 17 in Charlotte.
 
The Royals also honored its three-member senior class in Carlotta Nassi Caroline Nielsen and Jasmine Woods in a pre-match ceremony. Nielsen holds the Queens program record for most singles wins in a career, while Nassi s second on the list.
 
"I wish I were articulate enough to express how much these seniors have meant to our program," said Head Coach Billy Boykin. "All I can say is that we are grateful to each of them for their many contributions and that we will miss all of them dearly. Their influence is indelible."
 
Match One: #39 Queens University of Charlotte 9, Carson-Newman University 0

Queens started off its SAC contest against Carson-Newman with an 8-1 win by the nation's No. 41 duo of freshmen Sasha Davidzenka and Yana Fleyer in the top doubles position. Nielsen and junior Hannah Lehfeldt also had an 8-1 win of their own at No. 3, while Nassi and sophomore Isabel Fornies closed out doubles competition at No. 2 with an 8-3 victory to extend their season record to a perfect 14-0 overall.
 
Fleyer, the No. 42 singles player, began singles play with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2, followed by a 6-1, 6-1 from Davidzenka at No. 3.
 
Nielsen (7-5, 6-1) and Fornies (6-2, 6-0) needed just two sets to win their matchups at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, while junior Ana Bolson was a 7-6 (10-4), 6-1 winner in the No. 6 position. Nassi, the nation's 58th-ranked singles player, won the final contest of the match 6-4, 6-2 in the top overall spot.

The Royals finished the day with its third straight shutout win, defeating the Atlantic Region's eighth-ranked team in Johnson C. Smith.
 
Queens tallied and 8-0 win from Davidzenka and Fleyer at No. 1 doubles, followed by another 8-0 win at No. 2 by the tandem of Lehfeldt and Nielsen. Nassi and Woods teamed together at No. 3 for an 8-3 win to give the Royals all three doubles' points.
 
In singles competition, Nassi moved her win streak to four matches with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, as Lehfeldt followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5.
 
Fornies played at No. 3 and won 6-2, 6-1, while Bolson was a 6-1, 6-1 victor in the No. 4 singles position. Nielsen recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win as the team's No. 2 singles player as Woods finished the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 6 spot.
