CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team, ranked No. 41 in the latest ITA rankings, earned its sixth win in a row and 10th of the season with an 8-1 victory over Coker College. Thursday's win also moved the Royals to a perfect 6-0 in South Atlantic Conference play.
Queens held a 3-0 lead following the conclusion of doubles play, as the No. 2 duo of senior
Carlotta Nassi and sophomore
Isabel Fornies put the team on the scoreboard with an 8-0 shutout. The freshman tandem of
Sasha Davidzenka and
Yana Fleyer won 8-1 in the top position, while senior
Caroline Nielsen and junior
Hannah Lehfeldt combined for an 8-2 win.
Fornies began singles play with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 6, followed by a 6-2, 6-2 win from Davidzenka at No. 3 to put the match away.
Nielsen (6-1, 6-0) and Fleyer (6-1, 6-1) each won their singles match at No. 4 and No. 2, respectively, while Nassi, the nation's No. 37 overall singles player, was a 7-6 (10-5), 7-6 (10-3) winner in the top position. Fleyer's win pushed her to a perfect 11-0 on the season in singles competition.
"We put in a solid over effort. Carlotta was especially tough in the top spot today," said Head Coach
Billy Boykin. "These girls always compete hard and that's been the difference for us all year."
Queens concludes its three-match homestand on Saturday, March 31, when the team welcomes No. 21 Wingate University to the courts for a 1 p.m. match.
