ROCK HILL, S.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's
Daniel Wallis was named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and
Kim Thiede was named the Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Wallis, a graduate student distance runner from the United Kingdom, took first place in the one-mile run at the Camel City Invite hosted by JDL Fast Track, clocking an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:04.86. Wallis also set meet and program records at the event, and currently ranks No. 5 in the nation in Division II.
Thiede, a senior from Hamburg, Germany, placed fifth in the pole vault clearing the bar at 3.40 meters. She now ranks second in the conference.
The weekly accolade is the first of the season for both Wallis and Thiede.
The Royals return to competition on Thursday, Feb. 8, in the College Team Challenge, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
