CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team defeated Bluefield State College on Sunday morning, extending its win streak to four-in-a-row, winning 8-0 at the Queens Sports Complex.
The Royals tallied all three points in doubles play, with all three matchups ending in an 8-0 score. Freshmen
Yana Fleyer and
Sasha Davidzenka, ranked No. 21 nationally in the most recent ITA Doubles Rankings, picked up their fourth straight win to open the season as Queens' No. 1 doubles duo.
In singles play, Queens won five matchups before rain forced a premature end to the No. 1 singles contest. Sophomore
Isabel Fornies finished her match first, taking the No. 6 decision in two quick sets 6-0, 6-0. Senior
Caroline Nielsen and Davidzenka also finished in just two sets, 6-0, 6-0, to taking the No. 4 and No. 3 matches, respectively.
Fleyer was a 6-1, 6-1 winner in the No. 2 position, while junior
Hannah Lehfeldt collected the team's final point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.
The team takes on Georgia College next Friday, March 9, at 2 p.m. in Milledgeville, Ga. The Bobcats are ranked No. 5 in the ITA Southeast Regional rankings, while the Royals are the region's 10th-ranked program.
