Royals Pace Themselves to 2nd and 5th Place Finishes at Rock Pre-National Meet

PITTSBURG, Pa.  – The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's cross country teams, currently ranked sixth and 17th nationally, closed their regular seasons at the Rock Pre-National Meet. The races took place at Schenley Park which is where the 2018 NCAA DII Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will take place in early December. The men finished tied for second to notch their fourth top-five finish of the season while the women were fifth grabbing their fourth top-10 finish of the season.
 
On the men's side, the Royals tied Mount Olive for second place after each team totaled 126 points. They finished behind No. 3 Colorado School of Mines' who totaled 19 points. Nick Kipkemei led the Royals with a 13th place finish in 25:52 while Daniel Wallis grabbed 26th place in 26:21. Yannik Duppich (26:24), Seb Anthony (26:25), and Anthony Raftis (26:25) then crossed the line in 28th, 29th, and 30th, respectively, to complete the Royals' scoring. Felix Wammetsberger and Jose Rosas also ran today, completing the race in 32nd and 38th place.
 
In the women's race, No. 6 Colorado School of Mines totaled 37 points to win the 6k. No. 16 Walsh, No. 18 Hillsdale, and Roberts Wesleyan also finished ahead of the Royals in places 2-4. Natane Deruytter led Queens in 14th place with a time of 23:06 while Carissa Jenkins (23:40) and Lucie Noall (23:40) finished 32nd and 33rd, respectively. Mandi Moxie claimed 46th place in 23:59 and Zuzana Durcova took 51st in 24:03. Aleksa Heeley and Haley Schaeffer also raced, taking 80th and 87th place.
 
Queens will begin postseason competition at the South Atlantic Conference Championships on November 3 in Spartanburg, South Carolina at the Milliken Research Center.
 
"We executed the race workout to perfection on both sides," said Queens head men's and women's cross country coach Tom Scott. "We know the NCAA National Championship course and have familiarized ourselves with the challenges that it has. We're excited to be heading into championship season starting with the SAC Championships on Nov. 3rd!"
