ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens University of Charlotte's Hannah Wolkenhauer has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, and Tom Bains has been named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for races Sept. 11 - 17, the League announced on Wednesday.

Wolkenhauer, a junior from Lincoln, Nebraska, finished the 5k course in 17:27.0 at the Stegemoller Classic hosted by the University of Southern Indiana to take first place. Her time helped lead the Queens women's team to a third-place finish at the event. Wolkenhauer was previously named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's National Runner of the Week for her performance at Saturday's meet. The award is Wolkenhauer's first Player of the Week honor this season
 
"It was great to see Hannah get the win at the course where Nationals will be this year," said head coach Kevin Licht. "She's worked very hard to get where she has and is very deserving of this honor."
 
Bains, a graduate student from Sheffield, United Kingdom, took second place in the 8k at the Stegemoller Classic with a time of 24:25.3. Bains led the Queens men's team to a first-place finish in the 15-team field. The award is his first Player of the Week honor this season as well.
 
"Tom has developed into one of the top runners nationally and it was fun to watch him run such a great race on Saturday," said Licht. "He worked very hard this summer in order to help lead our team to their goals, and it's great to see him be recognized for his hard work."
 
The Royals next compete in the Royals Cross Country Challenge on Sept. 29, hosted by Queens at McAlpine Creek Park.
