ANDERSON, S.C. – No. 50 Queens University of Charlotte dropped a tight 5-4 contest at Anderson University on Saturday, March 25 at the AU Tennis Complex.
Much like in their last outing, the Royals (6-3, 4-2) were unable to overcome a slow start in doubles play as they fell to a high-powered and home-standing Trojans (12-3, 5-1) squad.
"We fought hard today, but came up a point short," said head coach
Billy Boykin. "Credit to Anderson, they outplayed us. Our best tennis is still in front of us; we are looking forward to getting back out on the courts."
None of the three doubles matches were particularly close as Queens' lone point came at the No. 2 match where
Carlotta Nassi and Anna Bolson blanked the AU team of Delaney Wiggins and Jacqueline Olivia.
The singles portion of the match saw Anderson take the top three flights and Queen take the bottom three. Unfortunately, the split meant the Royals couldn't make up the point they needed as they dropped their second straight road match by the final of 5-4.
Caroline Nielsen took the No. 4 match 6-3, 6-2,
Hannah Lehfeldt earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 and
Isabel Fornies dominated AU's Jennifer Holcombe, 6-0, 6-2, in the sixth match.
The Royals will look to get back to their winning ways this upcoming Tuesday, March 28 when they host Catawba College.
