CAYCE, S.C. – In a match of two of the top teams in the South Atlantic Conference, No. 39 Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis prevailed with a narrow 5-4 victory over Newberry College on Friday, March 17.  

While it was the Royals who came in with the national ranking by their name, it was the Wolves who appeared early on as though they should be as they won doubles, 2-1. The No. 1 team of Marta Gonzalez and Melissa Laing lost a 9-8 match and the No. 3 pairing of Caroline Nielsen and Hannah Lehfeldt lost a tight 8-6 contest.

The lone point Queens did salvage in doubles ended up becoming huge as the second flight team of Carlotta Nassi and Ana Boilson earned a hard-fought 8-6 win over Lucia Davia and Kelly McManus. 

Nassi and Boilson then took their momentum into singles action as Nassi defeated NC's Elizabeth Williamson, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 1 match and Boilson took down McManus at the No. 6 flight, 6-3, 6-1.

Needing only two more points to eke out the victory, the Royals got just that from Nielsen and Lehfeldt at the No. 4 and 5 flights, respectively. Caroline Nielsen defeated Newberry's Lucia Davia, 6-4, 6-1, and Hannah Lehfeldt scored a 6-0, 6-4 win over Rebeca Martinez.

Queens will return to action this upcoming Wednesday, March 22 when they make their way east to Wingate University.
