Women’s Tennis Tops Mars Hill on Opening Day

Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-
The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team, ranked 39th nationally, dominated Mars Hill in their season opener. The Royals took the match 9-0 to start the season 1-0 in both conference and overall while Mars Hill moved to 4-2 on the year and 0-1 in the South Atlantic Conference.

"I thought this was a solid overall performance from our team," said Head Coach Billy Boykin. "Mars Hill made us compete at every spot and our girls responded with good play. We will work to clean a few things up this week at practice and are excited for more competition."

The Royals started the day strong with a 3-0 sweep of the doubles. Caroline Nielsen and Hannah Lehfeldt earned the first doubles point with an 8-2 victory over Sophia Pelaez and Hannah Hill on court three. Carlotta Nassi and Ana Bolson soon followed with another 8-2 win over Evan Lake and Jade Henke. Marta Gonzalez and Melissa Laing secured the final doubles point, claiming the number one slot in a tense 8-7 win over Jasha Geerwink and Dante Hart.

In singles play the Royals put in an equally dominant display with victories on all courts.
