NEWTON, N.C.
- The Queens University of Charlotte men's cross country team finished in first place to claim the conference title at the South Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday morning. The Royals posted a team score of 22 points, finishing 65 points ahead of Wingate University in second. The championship is the second for the Queens men since joining the SAC prior to the 2013 season.

"The men ran well and I'm very proud of their effort," said head coach Kevin Licht. "We do have some things to work on to further our preparation for Regionals and Nationals, but overall it was a good showing."

The Royals were led by the performance of Tom Bains who won the individual conference title, finishing the 8k course in a time of 24:28.44. Bains was also named the conference's Runner of the Year.

Daniel Wallis finished third with a time of 24:42.52, Nick Kipkemei took fourth running in 24:43.44, and Felix Wammetsberger took sixth with a time of 24:54.53. Wallis, Kipkemei and Wammetsberger were all named first-team all-conference selections as a result of their top-seven finishes. Kipkemei also received the conference's Freshman of the Year recognition, while Wammetsberger along with Kipkemei were named to the All-Freshman team.

Conal McCambridge, who finished ninth with a time of 25:36.74, Jose Rosas who claimed 10th running in 25:37.07, and Anthony Raftis who took 12th place with a time of 25:46.77, were all named second-team all-conference selections.

Additionally, Licht, in his first season as head coach, was named the conference's Coach of the Year.

Queens, the 10th-ranked team in the nation according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association, will next compete in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals in Wingate, North Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 4.
