Wingate, N.C.- The No. 42 Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team fell to the No. 39 ranked Wingate Bulldogs on Monday, April 4, 2016. Queens fell one match shy in the 5-4 defeat to take their first loss in conference for a 6-1 league record and 8-2 overall. Wingate remained undefeated in the South Atlantic Conference at 9-0 as the moved to 12-5 on the season.
Queens was only able to find one match in doubles play as
Carlotta Nassi and
Melissa Laing secured the top flight at 8-6 over Oroma Womeodu and Andrea Temera.
In singles play,
Marta Gonzalez took the first point off the board with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Andrea Ternera for the No. 2 point. Nassi finished second with a win in the No. 1 spot. She would play Claudia De Andreis to a 6-3, 6-2 match.
Caroline Nielsen rounded out the day seeing the last point for Queens with a win on court four, rallying to take a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win over Caroline Holland.
Queens will play Catawba on the road on Thursday, April 7, for a 2 p.m., match.
