Hartsville, S.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team will continue their run in the South Atlantic Conference Softball Championships this afternoon, facing Wingate University in an elimination game. The Royals, who extended their overall record to 24-26, will meet the Bulldogs (32-15) for the second time this tournament with a 12 p.m., game.
The Royals topped the Bulldogs in game one of the tournament to upset the team 3-1 in extra innings.
Sydney Ditto brought home a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to claim the win after
Ashton Whitaker put the game in extra innings with a homerun in the seventh.
Queens fell in the follow up game to the second seeded team of the tournament, Catawba, but claimed a win over Lincoln Memorial to stay alive and advance to the third day. The Royals clinched their spot in this game with a walk-off single by
Lyndey McCurry to end LMU's run.
After the loss to Queens, Wingate meet the Wolves of Newberry, taking a dominate win of 7-0. Last night they battled Carson-Newman for a 5-1 victory to continue their stay in the SAC Championship.
The game is set to begin today at 12 p.m., as both teams fight to remain in conference play. The winner will advance to the next round at 5 p.m., later today. Live stats and video can be found on the Queens Athletic website.
