Box Score Hartsville, S.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball season came to a close after the Royals fell to the No. 19-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne 9-1 in five innings of an elimination game for the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship. As the third remaining team of the tournament, the Royals season concludes at 25-27. Lenoir-Rhyne moves to 46-10 overall.
Queens tabbed the first run of the game as
Samantha Martinez stole third forcing an error from the catcher to give her a chance to escape to home plate. Unfortunately for the Royals, that would be the lone run of the day as Lenoir-Rhyne saw three consecutive three-run at bats.
Seven of the nine runs scored by the Bears would be earned as they worked their way through the first three innings of the game. Struggling to find their way to base, Queens saw just five hits to the Bears 12. Additionally, the Royals left two runners on base against the No. 19 ranked team.
All three Queens pitchers saw time in the game as
Evie Scott started and took the loss. She totaled 1.2 innings with seven hits and six runs.
Lyndey McCurry pitched for 1.0 innings and
Catelyn Presley pitched for 1.1 innings to close out the game. McCurry saw four hits and three runs as Presley just tallied a hit.
Lenoir-Rhyne will now face Catawba in the SAC Finals.
