Charlotte, N.C.- The No. 42-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team worked their way through nine matches on Sunday, April 3, 2016, to top Coker College. Queens would move to 8-1 overall after the day and 6-0 within the South Atlantic Conference. Coker fell to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in league play.
Pushing through the doubles play,
Claire Hamilton and
Hannah Lehfeldt took the first point off the board with an 8-2 win on court three.
Marta Gonzalez and
Caroline Nielsen topped Sarah Elliot and Jessi Campos on court two for an 8-3 match.
Carlotta Nassi and
Melissa Laing rounded out the doubles competition to see an 8-4 score on the first court.
The Royals tabbed three quick matches in singles play to take the day. Gonzalez grabbed the first singles match, claiming a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Bailey Palmer for the No. 2 court. Nassi tabbed the game win seeing her way to a 6-3, 6-1 victory for the match point. Competing in two sets, Laing went 7-5, 6-1 for the third court to lay claim to another Queens' victory.
Nielsen, Hamilton, and Lehfeldt played one set to eight to conclude the day in favor of the Royals. Hamilton found the next point for the team grabbing court five with an 8-1 score. Lehfeldt secured court six with an 8-0 score against Jenna Gainey as Nielsen rounded out the day on court four with an 8-4 score.
Queens will head to Wingate tomorrow, April 4
th, to face the Bulldogs at 3 p.m.
