No. 15 Queens To Play for SAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship Title

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team, ranked 15th in the nation, defeated Tusculum College this afternoon by a score of 21-6 to move on to the South Atlantic Conference Championship game for the third year in a row.
 
The Royals (16-2) will move on to face the winner of the Lenoir-Rhyne versus Catawba game in the championship tomorrow evening.
 
After a scoreless first five minutes of play, Queens' Brittany Larranaga and Abigail Paulus would team up for a pair of goals to give the Royals a 2-0 lead at 24:13. Kelly Dowd then put a pair of unassisted goals on the board over the next minute of action to give the home team a 4-0 advantage. Alexandra Bruder would cap the 5-0 run with a free position shot just before the Pioneers found their first goal of the game at 21:21 coming from the stick of Alycea Ohl. Queens then put together a string of runs to head into the locker room with a nine point lead, 13-4. Larranaga finished the half with four goals, while Dowd totaled two goals and two assists.
 
Queens would open the second half with a pair of goals that Tusculum would match by the 21:30 mark making the score 15-6. The Royals then went on to score six consecutive goals to put the Pioneers away for good.
 
Queens outshot Tusculum 28-14, putting 26 shots on goal. The Royals also totaled 21 ground balls and 15 draw controls in the win.
 
Larranaga completed the game with four goals, while Bruder finished out with a hat trick. Dowd and Paulus tallied two goals and two assists apiece, while Shannon Mansberger notched two goals and one assist. Sydney Lear and Sarah Bell added two goals each as well. Maggie Masters and Sydney Dishman totaled two caused turnovers each. Christine Wiese completed the day in the net with six saves.
 
Erin Sims led the Pioneers with two goals and one assist, while Savannah Elliott totaled two goals.
 
Tomorrow's championship game will take place at the Queens Sports Complex in Charlotte, N.C., at 5 p.m. The Royals will be looking for their third conference championship title in a row. Live stats and video will be available.
