Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Royals, ranked 15
th in the nation, defeated No. 13 Limestone College at the Queens Sports Complex by a score of 9-2. The Royals improve to 15-2 on the year with the south region win, while the Saints fall to 13-4 on the year. The win also extends the Royals' win streak to 10.
Queens was led by
Kelly Dowd and
Abigail Paulus who each totaled two goals and one assist.
Shannon Mansberger also totaled two goals, while
Brittany Larranaga,
Maggie Masters and
Hanna Scott totaled one goal and one assist each.
After sitting tied, 2-2, with the Saints at the half, Queens would take over in the second with seven unanswered goals to defeat Limestone this evening. Paulus got the ball rolling netting a goal not even a minute into play in the second before Dowd followed with a pair to give the home team a 5-2 lead. Queens' next goal wouldn't come until Masters found the back of the net at just under the 10 minute mark, and Mansberger soon followed with a pair of her own. All three goals were scored in under a minute of play. The Royals' final point of the night would come with 1:59 left in regulation from Larranaga.
Queens outshot the Saints 18-16 this evening, putting 11 shots on goal. The Royals also won nine draw controls to Limestone's three.
Christine Wiese totaled six saves in the win for Queens, while Sydney Teeter of Limestone recorded two saves.
Tonight's win over the Saints is first for the Royals since the 2006 season.
The Royals, having received a first round bye in the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship, will play on Thursday at 4 p.m., at the Queens Sports Complex. Seeded first, the Royals will face the winner of the Tusculum versus Brevard quarterfinal game being played tomorrow.
