Softball Prepares for South Atlantic Conference Tournament

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team advanced to the South Atlantic Conference Tournament for the first time since the program joined the league in 2014. Queens finished the season with a conference record of 11-11 to take the sixth seed heading into postseason play. The team concluded the year with a 22-25 record after sweeping their last double-header against Brevard College.

Lenoir-Rhyne would take the top seed, capturing the regular season title for the first time since 2012.  The Bears finished the season with a 20-2 league record. At No. 2 in the seeds was Catawba as the Catawba Indians finished the SAC season at 18-4. Wingate's 15-7 record was good for the No. 3 seed and Carson-Newman earned the No. 4 seed with a 14-8 record in league play. Lincoln Memorial would share a mirroring record to Queens at 11-11 in league play. The Railsplitters picked up the No. 5 seed via the tiebreaker procedure. Newberry and Anderson also turned in the same SAC record at 9-13 in SAC play. The Wolves swept the season series to break the tie and garner the No. 7 seed, with Anderson rounding out the seeds at No. 8.

The 2016 South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship will be played at Byerly Park in Hartsville, S.C., and will be played Thursday, April 28-May 1. Below is the championship schedule.
