Charlotte, N.C.- The Queens University of the Charlotte women's tennis team found a 8-1 win in their last regular season match of the year against the Wolves of Newberry. The Royals would end regular season play at 11-3 overall and 9-2 in conference. Newberry dropped to 15-6, and 7-4 within the South Atlantic Conference.
The day started strong with three dominate wins at doubles as both court three and court two found 8-1 victories.
Claire Hamilton and
Hannah Lehfeldt landed the first point in the No. 3 spot to take the match away from Kelly McManus and Veronika Viegas.
Carlotta Nassi and
Caroline Nielsen followed with their win on court two against Elizabeth Williamson and Tarar Lamers.
Marta Gonzalez and
Melissa Laing rounded out the paired play defeating Vanessa Ortiz and Amanda Carrillo 8-5 in the top flight.
Heading into the singles matchups, Lehfeldt tallied the team's first point with mirroring 6-2, 6-2 sets on court six. Nassi would tab the match point on court one with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Williamson.
Battling through three sets, Laing found a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-4) win against Carrillo to add to the team's score. Nielsen and Hamilton concluded the day with single set wins at court four and five, respectively. Nielsen drove for an 8-2 match while Hamilton worked her way to a 8-6 score.
The Royals will begin preparation for the South Atlantic Conference Championship on April 22
