Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team, ranked 14
th in the nation, traveled to compete against No. 6 Rollins College falling 12-5 to the Tars. The loss is the first for Queens bringing their record to 3-1 on the year, while Rollins improves to 5-0.
Brittany Larranaga led the Royals this evening with two goals and one assists, while
Hanna Scott added one goal and one assist.
Kelly Dowd and
Bridgette Larranaga also tallied goals in the loss. Additionally, Dowd recorded three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Queens would have a hard time getting into their usual offensive rhythm tonight not seeing a goal until 5:24 in the first half. By that time, the Tars had fought past Queens' tough defense to put four goals on the board and they would follow the
Brittany Larranaga score with two more to lead 6-1 with 1:03 to play. A goal from
Bridgette Larranaga with 49 seconds on the clock would give the game a 6-2 score at the break.
After Rollins opened the second period with a goal from Emily Eddowes,
Brittany Larranaga answered again to keep Queens' within four, 7-3. However, the Tars were able to hold on to their lead for the remainder of play as it seemed Rollins found the back of the net twice for every one goal the Royals would score.
Queens was outshot 21-17, though they were edged just 16-15 in shots on goal. Both teams collected 14 ground balls apiece, and Rollins won the battle at the draw, 11-8.
Christine Wiese took the loss in goal after totaling four saves, while Rollins' Malorie Olin totaled 10 saves in the win.
Kallie German led all on the field with four goals for Rollins.
The Royals are back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Saint Leo University on the road.
