Box Score WINGATE, N.C. – Maggie Masters and
Abigail Paulus of the Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (7-2, 4-0) led the Royals to a 19-8 win over Wingate University (7-4, 2-2) with four goals apiece this afternoon.
After opening the game with a four straight goals in the first six minutes of play, Queens never looked back. The Bulldogs would score two goals to break up the Royals' run, but a 7-0 push in the final 15 minutes of the half gave the visitors an 11-2 lead at the break.
Wingate would find some momentum to start the second period outscoring Queens 5-1 to close the gap to five, 12-7, with 20:50 to play, but six consecutive goals from the Royals would put Wingate's comeback hopes to an end. Queens extended their lead to 11, 18-7, on three goals from
Hanna Scott, two goals from Paulus and one from
Kelly Dowd.
Paulus tallied two assists today to go along with her four goals for six points to lead Queens. Masters had one assists for a total of five points. Scott also had six points after tallying three assists to go along with her hat trick, while
Alexandra Bruder totaled three goals and two assists for five points. Dowd completed play with two goals and six draw controls.
The Royals outshot Wingate 37-15 putting 32 shots on goal. Queens also won the battle at the draw, 17-12. Goalkeeper
Christine Wiese had three saves in the win.
Paulena Dempsey led the Bulldogs with three goals, while Brittany Andrews and Emily Nosek had two apiece. Arion Pierre totaled 13 saves on the day.
The Royals are back in action at home on Saturday at noon as they welcome Tusculum College to Dickson Field.
