Box Score Mars Hill, N.C.- The No. 42-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team continued their undefeated run through conference play after blanking the Lions of Mars Hill on Saturday, March 26, 2016, with a 9-0 score. Queens moved to 7-1 on the year and 5-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. Mars Hill dropped to 4-10 on the year and 1-6 in conference.
"I thought we played pretty solid tennis today," said Head Coach
Billy Boykin. "We competed well and fought hard against a good Mars Hill team."
With three wins in doubles, Queens jumped out to an early lead in the match with courts one and two seeing 8-3 scores.
Carlotta Nassi and
Melissa Laing paired to meet Lucy McLaurin and Jasha Geerdink for the top flight point.
Marta Gonzalez and
Caroline Nielsen found their 8-3 win on court two against Hannah Hill and Jade Henke. Queens captured the sweep with
Hannah Lehfeldt and
Ana Bolson dropping just one game to Samantha Echevarria and Natalie Hilbig for the third doubles point.
In singles play, No. 22-ranked Nassi found equaling sets of 6-3 for the No. 1 singles point. Gonzalez would see herself to a third set matchup against Geerdink, rallying to take court two 6-1, 0-6, 6-2. Holding the third court to a 6-1, 6-4 score, Laing topped McLaurin while Nielsen went untouched on court four for a 6-0, 6-0 score.
In an eight game set,
Claire Hamilton and Lehfeldt took wins on court five and court six, respectively. Both tallied their victories with an 8-1 score.
Royals will be back in action on Friday, April 1, against Wingate. Queens will on the road at 2 p.m.
