Women’s Tennis Tops Lincoln Memorial

Charlotte, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team topped Lincoln Memorial on Monday, February 29, 2016, seeing the match to an 8-1 score. The women would improve to a 6-1 overall record to remain undefeated in the South Atlantic Conference at three games. The Railsplitters would fall to a 4-4 overall record and 0-3 in conference.

"This team gets a little better with each match," said Head Coach Billy Boykin. "They are a coachable group and are hungry to improve. We'll hit the practice courts hard this week and prepare for a tough Tusculum team on Saturday."

Quick doubles play launched the team to a 3-0 start for the match. Partners Marta Gonzalez and Caroline Nielsen tallied the first point of the day with an 8-2 score for the No. 2 court. The two played Javiera Gonzalez and Angelica Solano for the match. Claire Hamilton and Hannah Lehfeldt mirrored the result on court three against Marta Pinol and Roksolana Prudyvus. Melissa Laing and Carlotta Nassi secured the last point with an 8-4 Royals win in the top flight.

Laing was first to tally a win in singles play, taking a 6-2, 6-0 victory over J. Gonzalez on court three. Nassi followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory of her own on the No. 1 court against Elena Vasilyeva to give Queens the win.

Battling through three sets, M. Gonzalez went 6-1, 4-6, 10-3 to take the No. 2 singles point away from Pinol. Nielsen tallied the win on court four against Priscilla Bulandres while Lehfeldt took the win on court six against Solano. Both saw their match to an 8-2 single set win to conclude the day.

The team will take a break throughout the week before seeing Tusculum on the road on Saturday, March 5th for a 1 p.m., match.
