Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team, ranked 16
th in the nation, defeated the University of Tampa this afternoon by a score of 15-4 to open their season at 1-0. The Spartans fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss.
The Royals dominated the Spartans this afternoon outshooting Tampa 30-6, and grabbing 30 ground balls to their six. Queens was led by
Alexandra Bruder who scored four goals.
Maggie Masters added a hat trick, while
Brittany Larranaga,
Abigail Paulus, and Hannah Scott each scored two goals. Paulus also led in assists with four to give her a total of six points. Scott dished out two assists.
Queens opened today's game with two early goals before the Spartans were able to put one in the back of the net. A 4-0 push would follow by the Royals extending the home team's lead to five, 6-1, with 9:49 to play. Tampa would then see a pair of goals to cut into Queens' lead, but three straight from the Royals would give the game a 9-3 score at the break.
Four consecutive goals in the second, two coming from Scott, would be all the Royals needed to put the Spartans away for good as Queens' defense held the visitors to just one more point in the period.
Christine Wiese of Queens finished the game with two saves, while Caili Guilday totaled 12 saves for Tampa.
The Royals are back in action on Monday, February 29 at 4 p.m. when they welcome Seton Hill to Dickson Field.
