MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's cross country team secured a berth to the NCAA National Championships after finishing in third place overall in the NCAA Division II Southeast Cross Country Championships this morning. The Royals totaled 101 points for their third place automatic bid.
Elijah Inuwa,
Jose Rosas, and
Avery Cypress would be named to the Southeast All-Region Team.
Mount Olive led the day with 57 points including the fastest runner of the day, Adam Craig. Mars Hill would take second in the competition with 77 points to earn their team a trip to the national competition.
"I'm excited with our men's performance this weekend," said Cross Country Coach
Tsehaye Baney. "The men were able to bounce back from the conference meet and really step it up when it counted the most. Now the focus is to continue to stay healthy and get ready for the national meet."
Racing the course with a time of 31:07.75, Inuwa crossed in ninth place to lead the team in the 10k. Rosas finished second for the team and 20
th in the competition as he put together a 31:31.76 performance as Cypress claimed 24
th with a time of 31:45.04.
Anthony Raftis and
Jimmy Hollingsworth closed out the scoring runners for the team, respectively. Raftis ran a 31:48.05 for 27
th overall while Hollingsworth ran a 32:01.66 for 29
th.
Also competing,
Tom Bains scored 66
th racing with a time of 33:08.44 as
Noah Ingalls claimed 104
th with a time of 34:21.16.
Queens will head to the NCAA Division II Championships in St. Leo, Fla., on November 19
th.
