Charlotte, NC – The No. 41-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team (1-0) swept Johnson C. Smith (0-2) in their first match of the year. The Royals claimed a 9-0 victory over the Golden Bulls on Saturday, January 30, 2016.

"I am proud of our overall effort today," said Head Coach Billy Boykin. "I thought the girls kept their focus and competed pretty well. We still have a lot of work to do, but this was still a good start to the year. I'm also excited for our two freshman, Hannah Lehfeldt and Ana Bolson. They each recorded their first collegiate victories today. I'm happy for the two for them and we are excited about the future."

Starting the day, Jacklyn Pfuhl partnered with Caroline Nielsen took the win at the No. 1 doubles spot clinching an 8-0 victory against Kaylin Roman and Michaela Colvin. Marta Gonzalez and Jasmine Woods would finish their court second, reaching an 8-1 victory on court 3 against Alex Barber and Victoria Ogundipe. Securing the doubles sweep, Ana Bolson and Melissa Laing saw an 8-2 win against Khadijah Battle and Jasmine Riddick at the No. 2 spot.

With the first singles win of the day, Niesen topped Ogundipe with a 6-0, 6-0 win playing the number 3 spot. Hannah Lehfeldt secured the win for the Royals finding the fifth point against Roman. Lehfeldt would take her match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep playing on court 5.

Claire Hamilton added to the score with a win on court 6. Hamilton topped Barber 6-0, 6-0. Playing No. 1, Gonzalez went 6-2, 6-0 against Battle while Jaclyn Rock went 6-0, 6-0 against Colvin on court four. Laing concluded the day with a two set sweep on court 2.

The team will see their next match against Francis Marion as they travel for a 1 p.m., matchup on February 1.
