Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team collected its first win of the season this evening at Dickson Field defeating Southern Wesleyan College 2-1. The win helps the Royals improve to 1-1 on the season while the Warriors drop to 1-1.
 
The Royals were able to take a 2-0 halftime lead after freshman forward Edmundo Robinson and junior midfielder Marc-Kevin Schwenk each netted goals in the opening 45 minutes of action. Robinson would see the first goal of his collegiate career in the 29^th minute following a breakaway at midfield by Corey Brown. Brown raced up the right side of the field with the ball before sliding a pass to Robinson in the box who found the back of the net.
 
Queens' second goal would also be assisted by Brown as his corner kick found the head of Schwenk in the 42^nd minute, giving the Royals a 2-0 lead which they held until the break.
 
Southern Wesleyan found some luck in the second half when Nestor Gonzalez put a header into the back of the net off of a corner at minute 59. Marcelo Vargas was awarded the assist on the score.
 
Though chippy play followed in the remaining minutes resulting in the Royals having to play a man down, Queens was able to hold out for the win not allowing the Warriors to put another point on the board.
 
The Royals outshot Southern Wesleyan 15-10 with Brown's five shots leading the way. Taking the win in goal was freshman keeper Sergio Lemus who completed the night with two saves. Southern Wesleyan's Ruben Rodriguez took the loss in goal after totaling five saves.
 
The Royals will be back at home on Wednesday, September 9 when they host King University at 7:30 p.m.
