Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team faced the University of Mount Olive at home this evening falling 3-1 to the Trojans in the nonconference match. The Royals now sit 2-6 on the year, while the Trojans improve to 6-2.
The Royals outshot the Trojans 19-12, putting eight shots on goal compared to Mount Olive's nine. They were also able to earn 10 corner kicks on the night to Mount Olive's three.
Sergio Lemus completed 24:24 in goal, while
Ben Wallace totaled 65:36 in the net. Wallace would finish with five saves.
The Trojans got off to a quick start putting two goals on the board within one minute of each other. Cooper Gaypia would be the one to strike on both occasions, putting a header in the back of the net first in the 15
th minute. Fernando Tacuri was awarded the assists on the goal after serving the ball into play on a free kick. Gaypia then netted his second goal soon after, unassisted.
Following the lightening delay with almost seven minutes left to play in the first half, the Trojans would get on the board once more with a goal from Gaypia in the 53
rd. Gaypia would beat Queens' keeper one-on-one to score the goal.
The Royals were able to score their lone goal in the 82
nd minute when
Liam Doyle found the back of the net for his first score of the year. Doyle rebounded a shot by
Austin Huddy and zipped it past Mount Olive's keeper for the score.
The Royals are back in action on Saturday against Lenoir-Rhyne at the Queens Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
