Columbus, Ga.– The No. 36-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team's run came to an end on Monday, May 04, 2015, after the Royals faced the No. 8
th-ranked Columbus State in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament. The Cougars swept the doubles courts before adding two singles spots to clinch the match and improve to a 21-3 record. The Royals would conclude their season with a 16-4 overall record.
The day started with Columbus State securing the first three points of the day with wins in the doubles matchups. The No.2 doubles pair of
Marta Gonzalez and
Caroline Nielsen did see their way to a 3-3 tie but the Cougars rallied to take hold of the match. The other two courts resulted with Columbus State prevailing with 8-0 victories.
The Royals looked to shake off the doubles sets but Columbus State held their ground.
Jaclyn Rock would see a 4-2 lead in a tiebreaker on Court 5 when the match was clinched.
The loss ends a successful season for the Royals who found their way back into the NCAA Regional play for the first time in five years. The team held a national ranking all spring semester heading into today's match with the 36
th overall ranking. The Royals helped to garner their position in the tournament claiming the runner-up spot in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament and taking a 7-3 conference record.
