Hartsville, S.C. – In a shut win, the No. 28-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team (11-1, 5-1 SAC) defeated the Coker College Cobras (8-9, 4-3 SAC) on Thursday, April 02, 2015 with a 9-0 win.
Queens swept the courts for an 8-0 win on both the No. 1 and No. 2 courts with
Carlotta Nassi and
Melissa Laing playing top and
Marta Gonzalez and
Caroline Nielsen taking the No. 2 spot.
Jaclyn Rock and
Claire Hamilton saw an 8-5 win against Jessi Campos and Suzanna Mickey to complete the paired play.
Nassi, Laing, and Gonzalez shared credit for the win, but Nielsen, Rock, and Hamilton closed out the match to keep Coker off the board. Nassi playing No. 1 spot found a 6-2, 6-2 match score to defeat Jennifer Mezei. Wrapping up court 2, Laing found a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Bailey Palmer. Gonzalez would complete the two-set single matches finding her way into a 6-2, 6-0 victory for the No. 3 singles spot.
In a dominate performance on court 4, Nielsen took the 8-2, set victory. Battling through the eight point set, Rock came out on top finding the 7-0 tie break to take the No. 5 spot with a 9-8 score. Hamilton completed the match for a No. 6 singles win going 8-4 over Sarah Mickey.
Queens will host Tusculum this Saturday at Freedom Park for a 2 p.m. match.
