Charlotte, N.C. – In their last regular season match, No. 28 Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis (14-2, 9-2 SAC) found an 8-1 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (10-12, 5-6 SAC) on Sunday, April 12, 2015.
Queens battled to take all three doubles courts starting with a dominate performance on the Court 3 with an 8-1 performance from
Jaclyn Rock and
Claire Hamilton.
Carlotta Nassi and
Melissa Laing took down the next point with an 8-3 win on the top doubles court going against Zorica Djuric and Dominique Bruce.
Marta Gonzalez and
Caroline Nielsen persevered to take the sweep for the team with an 8-6 No. 2 Doubles win.
Hamilton and Nassi would take credit for the winning matches. Hamilton took the first point off the board with a 6-1, 6-2 No. 6 Singles win. Nassi found the team's fifth point driving past Djuric with a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) win for the No.1 spot.
Facing a three set matchup on Court 2, Laing grabbed a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win against Lenoir-Rhyne's Bruce. Gonzalez dug deep to come from behind to take the 6-4 second set win to refrain from entering the tiebreaking set. She would have the same set score for the first set. Nielsen took an 8-0 victory over Lela Sparks Thompson for the final match point for the Royals.
Queens will head to the South Atlantic Conference Tournament at Brevard College. Tournament begins on April 16.
