Anderson, S.C. – Continuing their undefeated start, the 29th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team (7-0, 2-0 SAC) topped Anderson University (6-2, 3-1 SAC) on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. The Royals came out sweeping the doubles and securing all but one singles court for the 8-1 win against the conference rival.
In contested matches, the Royals came out on top knocking down the three doubles teams from Anderson.
Carlotta Nassi's and
Melissa Laing's performance on court one led them to an 8-5 win against #22 ranked Ivey Welborn and Rebecca Burning.
Jaclyn Rock and
Claire Hamilton secured the 8-4 win the No. 3 Doubles spot. However, it was
Marta Gonzalez and Caroline Nielson who grabbed the sweep, nudging out Mairead Cleary and Lindsay Gregory to keep the Royals spotless in the paired matches with their 9-8 win.
As the team took on the singles matchup, Nassi, Gonzalez, and Nielson took the win for Queens as each saw victories on their courts. Rock and Hamilton would add to the Royals' score as each took a one set match to eight win.
Nassi's start on court one kept her record undefeated in dual matchups with a 6-2, 6-4 win. Gonzalez stepped into the No. 3 position for a 6-2, 6-4 win against Cleary while Nielson dealt a 6-4, 6-0 game to Alexandra Ebner. Rock found her win against Lindsay Gregory on the No. 5 seed going 8-6 while Hamilton rounded the day off with an 8-2 victory on in the sixth Singles spot against A. Gregory.
Royals will take some time off before heading back to the courts on Sunday, March 22 to take on Coker College in Hartsville, S.C.
