Jefferson City, Tenn. - Dominating the matchup, the No. 28-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team (9-1, 3-1 SAC) found their stride against the Carson-Newman Eagles (5-6, 3-4 SAC) on Sunday, March 29, 2015. Queens found an 8-1 victory over the Eagles as they took all six singles courts.
The Royals started with the upper hand after taking the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts. Combined, both courts only gave up three games to the Eagles as
Carlotta Nassi and
Melissa Laing took the No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 score and
Marta Gonzalez and
Caroline Nielsen took the No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 score.
Much like the doubles, Queens held control of head-to-head singles contests refusing to falter on even one court. Playing top of the lineup, Nassi found a 6-0, 6-1 win against Mallory Jackson for the No. 1 Singles. Laing overcame a tight first set contest on court 2 that fell to Jill Corsato 7-6. Laing battled to take the next two sets in equaling 6-2 scores for the win. Nielsen secured the No. 4 win going 6-0, 6-1 as
Jaclyn Rock took No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
Claire Hamilton closed out the lineup with a successful 8-1 victory over Haleigh Chastain on court 6. Gonzalez would also take a win after a 2-1 first set retirement from Carson-Newman for the No. 3 singles spot.
