Charlotte, N.C. – Bouncing back off their first season loss, Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team (8-1, 3-1 SAC) proved they meant business taking an 8-1 victory over the visiting Brevard College Tornados (1-11, 0-8 SAC).
With a three point start to the match, Queens swept the doubles courts with wins for the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots. Going 8-6 on court 1,
Carlotta Nassi and
Melissa Laing banded together to top Katie Daugherty and Jule Hermann.
Marta Gonzalez and
Caroline Nielsen dominantly paired off to take down the No. 2 doubles team of Lisa Pettig and Nirvanna Silva with an 8-1 score.
Powered heading into the singles, the Royals found four more wins to top Brevard. Gonzalez and Rock took the win for the team each battling through two sets. Gonzalez sought a 6-2, 6-1 victory over No. 3 singles opponent Pettig while Rock took equal 6-3, 6-3 set wins for the No. 5 spot against Camille Cameron.
Nassi and Nielsen added two more to the score taking an eight point set win. Nassi took top spot going 8-4 against Daugherty at No. 1 while Nielsen shut out her opponent with a seamless 8-0 run on court 4.
Queens hits the road tomorrow for a conference matchup against Carson-Newman beginning at 1 p.m.
