Charlotte, N.C. – The No. 28th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis (7-1, 2-1 SAC) suffered its first loss of the year to No. 49 Wingate University (9-4, 8-0 SAC) on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. The match came down to the last court as the Bulldogs came out victorious to take a 5-4 win ending the teams seven game winning streak.
Queens held the lead coming out of doubles play as the team saw wins on both the No.1 and No. 3 courts.
Jaclyn Rock and
Claire Hamilton took on the No. 3 doubles partners Caroline Holland and Layla Tanik for the first point of the match with an 8-5 score.
Carlotta Nassi and
Melissa Laing would hold onto Court 1 for Queens' second point of the night with a 9-7 win.
Nassi charged the first court to put the Royals ahead by two points as she dominantly took a 6-0 first set win before closing the door with a 7-5 second set.
Marta Gonzalez fought to overcome the third set on Court 3 as she found a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 victory. As the Royals held a 4-1 lead, Wingate found momentum pushing to grab the next four courts to take the match.
Queens returns to action on Friday, as the team hosts Brevard College at Freedom Park. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
