No. 14 Queens falls in battle with No. 7 Florida Southern

Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Royals (4-3) wrapped their Florida trip today with a game against No. 7 Florida Southern University (7-1). Queens University of Charlotte would fall 16-8 to the Mocs, a team holding just one loss this season at the hands of No. 1 Adelphi.

Holding a 5-1 lead over the Royals at the halftime break, the Mocs would open things up in the second with five unanswered goals in just over two minutes.

Kelly Dowd, Jenna Ready and Brittany Larranaga led the Royals with two goals apiece, while Bridgette Larranaga and Caity Hamilton each notched one goal. Dowd also led in ground balls with three, while Becca Chen and Ready tallied four draw controls each. Danielle Horoschak totaled four saves in 34:44, while Caitlin Cavallaro recorded four saves in 25:08.

Though putting seven shots on goal in the opening half of the game, the Royals were only able to find the back of the net once as Florida Southern goalkeeper Ashley Seborowski turned away the other six. At the break, Queens trailed the Mocs 5-1 despite Queens' Horoschak totaling four saves of her own.

The Mocs struck first in the second scoring at 27:50, but Queen's Hamilton answered with a man-up goal just 13 seconds later to keep things fairly close at 6-2. Unfortunately for the Royals, Florida Southern responded with five straight goals scored in just over two minutes of action to hold an 11-2 lead with 24:48 to play.

A 3-0 Queens run a few minutes later made it seem the Royals had a comeback brewing, but things would cool off offensively for both teams in the remaining minutes of regulation as the Mocs took the win.

The Royals were outshot 30-25 in today's game, and Queens lost the ground ball battle, 22-18. Both teams totaled 14 draw controls apiece.

Megan Asper led the Mocs today with four goals. Lorianne Hoover totaled three goals and three assists, while Kendall Kerge netted three goals as well. Catilin Chase and Ashley Robertson each tallied two goals and two assists. Seborowski took the win in goal after totaling 11 saves.

The Royals are back in action at home on Friday at noon against No. 9 Mercyhurst University.
