Newberry, S.C. - Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team (2-0) took their first road win of the year surpassing Newberry College (2-1) in a 6-3 victory on Saturday, February 7, 2015.
"I have been pleased with the chemistry displayed so far amongst the squads," said Head Coach
Brett Karpman. "I think we have improved some of our processes in the fall that are paying off now. Today was a solid win against a very fiery Newberry and I expect the players to come out firing tomorrow against another great program."
Queens started the match with a 2-1 lead after seamlessly defeating Kelly McManus and Rebeca Martinez for the No. 3 double position as
Jaclyn Rock and
Claire Hamilton took the 8-2 win. Caroline Nielson and
Marta Gonzalez nudge out Tara Lamers and Elizabeth Williamson with an 8-6 score to take the second point for the Royals.
Moving into the singles matchups,
Carlotta Nassi took the No. 1 singles spot forcing three sets after falling 6-4 in the first. Nielson took her second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 score over No. 4 Tara Lamers. With another win on court five, Rock took a 6-1, 6-1 win against Rebeca Martinez as Hamilton rounded out the singles with a 6-3, 6-2 score against Kelly McManus for No. 6.
Queens heads to USC-Aiken tomorrow for their 1 p.m. matchup against 2-0 Pacers.
