Box Score Charlotte, N.C. – With the completion of their home schedule, Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (5-20, 3-16 SAC) succumbed to Carson-Newman (17-9, 11-9 SAC) on Monday, February 23, 2015. Although it was the team's Senior Night, Carson-Newman found a run late in the second half to cap off the game 57-50.
Lacey Singletary led the team taking 12 points for the second highest total for the floor. She also found four blocks, two steals and four rebounds.
Sheridan Pressley came close behind with 10 points and one steal.
Maggie Stewart took down seven rebounds leading the team for the category.
Kailyn Brooks tallied 17 points for the night with four steals, five rebounds, and a blocks. Taylor Peterson took an additional 12 points as the Eagles were unified in their efforts for the night sharing the rest of the load. The team total 13 total steals as they force 21 turnovers.
Seniors
Lacey Singletary,
Abby Pettit, and
Aileen Savino started the game for the Royals driving the team into a 6-2 lead. Queens held the game until the 12:34 mark being surpassed off a layup from Kailyn Brooks. After seeing the game swing in favor of the Eagles by seven points, a boost of Royals momentum saw the team trailing by just one into the half.
Erin Brundage took the layup off a surge down court from
Karleasha Thompson who took advantage off a rebound for the 24-23 score.
Carson-Newman found control for the second half lead with a 35-27 score at 17:02. Although Queens found their offensive stability, the Eagles were there to equal the baskets. The Royals finally broke through the gap with Pressley finding one from beyond the arch to bring the game to a 42-40 score with 7:36 remaining. The tie would soon follow from Singletary grabbing on under the basket. However, a 9-0 lead inside of the last five minutes put a close on the game.
Queens finishes their season on the road with their next stop against Catawba on Wednesday, February 25 at 6 p.m.
