Box Score Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team welcomed No. 1 Pfeiffer University to Dickson Field this evening hoping to upset the Falcons in nonconference play. Though ending the Falcons' five-game shutout streak, Queens would fall 3-1 bringing their overall record to 5-7. Pfeiffer remains undefeated on the year at 12-0 following the win.
At the half, Queens found themselves trailing the Falcons 2-0 thanks to a goal from Martim Galvao in the first minute, and a goal from Jaime Siaj in the 33
rd. Galvao would score his goal off of a cross from Santi Moar, while Siaj's goal was a header off of a cross from Galvao.
The Royals would get on the board in the second half when
Isaac Walker scored his second goal of the season in the 48
th minute. Walker would find the ball after several deflections in the box and bury it in the back of the net to pull the Royals within one, 2-1.
With Queens on the hunt to tie the game back up, the Falcons responded with a goal in the 78
th from Siaj once again. Siaj would meet a cross from Moar in the right side of the box before placing the ball in the net to give Pfeiffer a 3-1 lead.
Trailing 3-1, Queens'
Celes Vilar was fouled in the box resulting in a penalty kick for the Royals, giving them the opportunity to cut the Falcons' lead to one once more. Unfortunately, Pfeiffer's Tomas Correa would come up huge with a save on Marc-Kevin Scwenk's penalty kick to keep his team in control.
The Falcons outshot Queens 21-16, putting 11 shots on goal compared to the Royals' eight shots on frame.
Matt Current completed play with seven saves, while Correa totaled seven as well.
Queens was able to hold Nathan Regis, currently ranked first in the nation in goals, scoreless this evening.
The Royals will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Newberry College to take on the Wolves at 3:30 p.m.
