Box Score Hickory, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (5-11, 3-8 SAC) held-on to take a 52-50 road win over Lenoir-Rhyne (5-10, 4-7 SAC) on Wednesday, January 21, 2015.
Lacey Singletary grabbed a double-double in the game tallying 12 in both points and rebounds.
Singletary's performance was aided with the addition of five more blocks to give her 45 for the year.
Erin Brundage would take the lead for the Royals offense finding 14 points for the night.
Maggie Stewart adding another 10 points to the scoreboard making her the third Royals' player to reach into double-digits during the game.
Queens allowed only one Lenoir-Rhyne player to find double-digits as Jazmine Charles took hold of 23 points to lead the floor. Although the Bears would finding tying points, the Royals took the lead with 5:50 left in the first half, securing it for the rest of the game.
In a solid performance, the Royals jumped out to an early lead immediately starting the game with an 8-2 run. However, Charles knocked down eight points to swing the game in favor of the Bears before hitting another three-pointer to make it 13-9 with 11:52 to play in the first half. Although it would take some time, Queens regained control of the game eventually tying with 6:48 left half with Brundage brining the game to an equal 18-18. With a narrow gap, the Royals fought their way into half never dropping the lead. Queens took to the locker rooms on top 27-24.
Both teams would break from half looking to reestablish their offensive rhythm but it would be Queens who held the upper hand. The Royals continued to make baskets with Lenoir-Rhyne never falling too far out of reach. The largest lead of the game would come after a steal from
Carmen Richardson who capped the play with two points to make the game 41-33. Stewart would tie the eight point lead with a layup two minutes later. With one second on the clock, Charles hit a three-pointer but it would be the Royals who walk away with a 52-50 score.
In their first nationally televised game, Queens will host Anderson University (12-3, 9-2 SAC) on Saturday, January 24 at Curry Arena inside the Levine Center. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 11:30 a.m. on CBS Sports Network.
