Royals unlucky at Mount Olive

Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – After getting off to a late start due to inclement weather, the Royals took to the field today at the University of Mount Olive to face off against the Trojans in a non-conference game. Queens University of Charlotte was defeated 3-1, dropping their record to 0-2 on the season.
 
The Royals got going early with a goal from newcomer Luis Campos in the 10th minute of action. Campos shot the ball from 18 yards out, which bounced off of a Trojan defender before finding the back of the net. Ryan Ejezie was awarded the assist on the play.
 
Another shot on goal from Kevin Anderson in the 12th would have given the Royals a 2-0 advantage, but Mount Olive goalkeeper Nick Bernsdorf was able to collect the save. Two shots on goal by the Trojans saved by Queens' Montrell Morgan would soon follow before a long string of fouls began.
 
Around the 23rd minute, the Royals were whistled for four consecutive fouls before defender Gregorio Pestana was given a yellow card. Six straight Trojan fouls soon followed. Queens' Ryan Kawczynski was then given two yellows within two minutes of each other forcing the Royals to complete the half and the game a man down.
 
The Royals were outshot 7-2 in the opening half, but they would put six shots in the books in the second half despite playing with just 10 men on the field.
 
Mount Olive scored its first goal of the game in the 59th minute when Cooper Gaypia put the ball in the net.
 
In minute 71, Daniel Faler of Queens put a shot on frame hoping to return the lead back to the Royals, but his shot was turned away by Bernsdorf. The Trojans then countered and the Royals' Eric Liebl was whistled for a foul inside the box and given a yellow card. The foul resulted in a penalty kick for Sean Lockett which put the Trojans ahead 2-1.
 
Queens' Marc-Kevin Schwenk took a shot on goal looking to equalize the match in the 76th, but Bernsdorf was there once more to turn the shot away. Another shot on goal from Ejezie in the 83rd was blocked as well.
 
Mount Olive's final goal of the game came from Bright Eto who rebounded a save by Queens' Morgan and found the back of the net in the 84th.
 
Today's game saw a combined total of 55 fouls and 11 cards.
 
Morgan completed 90 minutes in goal for Queens collecting seven saves, while Bernsdorf finished the game with four.
 
Queens will return to the pitch on Wednesday at Dickson Field for their home opener against Francis Marion University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
