Box Score 2 MARS HILL, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Softball team was on the road today as they travelled to take on a tough Mars Hill team. Despite a strong opening to the first game the Royals struggled to keep pace with the high powered Lions offense and lost both games by the scores of 14-5 and 7-1.
Game oneThe first game opened with a bang for the Royals when they pounded in five runs to give themselves an early lead. Picking up RBIs were
Taylor Rosenbalm,
Kaitlyn Cheek, and
Ashley Rollins who highlighted the inning with a two run home run.
But the home team immediately retaliated with three straight innings with three or more runs to take an 11-5 lead. They eventually were able to close out the game in the sixth when they picked up three more runs.
Game twoMars Hill immediately picked up where they left off in the first game, and by the third inning had a 3-0 lead. The Royals eventually added a run to the scoreboard in the fifth inning off an
Ashton Whitaker RBI single, but Mars Hill countered with four runs of their own in the next two innings.
Whitaker and
Whitney Britt led the Royals with two hits apiece in the game.
Queens is now 15-19 overall and 3-9 in conference play. They travel to Brevard on Monday.
